America’s Cup racing kommer tillbaka till New York för första gången sedan 1920 med Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series 7–8 maj 2016. Seglingarna i New York är en av sex planerade regattor nästa år där sex America’s Cup team med världens främsta seglare tävlar om poängen för att ta sig till finalen, 35th America’s Cup 2017.
I år har Emirates Team New Zealands stjärnskott till rorsman, Peter Burling som är den yngste i hela flotttan, lett sitt team till toppen i ledning över den regerande America’s Cup mästaren Jimmy Spithills ORACLE TEAM USA och den favorittippade utmanaren Land Rover BAR under ledning av olympiske mästaren och hjälten Ben Ainslie.
Årets tävlingar var tajta med tre olika vinnare i de tre första delseglingarna inom Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series 2015 och fyra olika individuella vinnare totalt sett. Kalendern för 2016 lovar ännu mer spännande racing med foilande AC45F katamaraner som flyger fram ovanför vattenytan.
– Alla kommer att vilja vara med på startlinjen i New York, säger ORACLE TEAM USA skeppare Jimmy Spithill.
– Eftersom alla team har varit på träning med samma mål i sikte så kommer ingenting att vara enkelt i år.
Seglingarna i New York blir spektakulära. Tävlingarna ska hållas på nedre Hudson River, framför Manhattans skyline. New York-borna älskar sport av alla de slag och det här kommer att bli något riktigt speciellt. Det blir ett stort event både för America’s Cup och för staden New York.
Träningsseglingarna startar i New York 6 maj, med poängsättande race helgen 7–8 maj.

Muscat, Oman – February 26-28, 2016;
New York, USA – May 6-8, 2016;
Chicago, USA – June 10-12, 2016;
Portsmouth, UK – July 22-24, 2016;
Till detta kommer ytterligare två Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series seglingar, troligen ett i Europa i mitten av september och ett i Asien i mitten av november.
Finalseglingarna hålls i Bermuda i maj och juni 2017.

About the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series New York
This event will take place from May 6-8, 2016, with official practice racing on the Friday and point-scoring races on Saturday and Sunday.
The Event Village will be in the Brookfield Place Waterfront Plaza, while the racing will be on the lower Hudson River off the Battery Park City Esplanade (between the Pier 25 basin to the north and The Battery to the south).
The technical areas for teams, race management and America’s Cup TV production will be based at Liberty State Park and Liberty Landing Marina, across the Hudson River in New Jersey.
About the America’s Cup
The America’s Cup is the oldest trophy in international sport, dating back to 1851, when the yacht America, after which the trophy is named, beat the best of the British fleet in a race around the Isle of Wight, U.K. The trophy won on that day was donated in trust through a Deed of Gift and has since become a symbol of immense achievement. On December 2, 2014, Bermuda was named as the home of the 35th America’s Cup, with the iconic Great Sound as the race course area where the new America’s Cup Class boats (15-meter, foiling, wing-sailed catamarans) from each competing nation will race for the America’s Cup in May/June 2017.
